Newcomers contribute to Kings 6-3 win in Sarnia on Thursday evening.
With 3 new players added to the roster the Komoka Kings outplayed the Sarnia Legionnaires to come home with a well earned victory. After a good back and forth effort by both teams Sarnia opened the scoring at 6:45 of the first period. Then Kings captain Joel Mazzilli scored at 11:30 with his 20th of the season, assisted by Blake McConnell-Barker and Jacob Rochford. Kings took a 2-1 lead at 15:19 with Mazzilli’s second of the game and 21st of the season with assists by Griffin St. Onge and Chase Strychaluk. Sarnia got that one back at 18:12 but the Kings took the lead again on a marker by Chase Strychaluk, his 7th, assisted by D’Arcy Panziera and Joell Mazzilli. Kings had a 3-2 lead after one with shots on net 14-13 in favour of the Legionnaires.
In the second period Kings put constant pressure in the Sarnia end but the Legionnaires scored the only goal of the period at 2:21. Late in the period the Kings took 3 penalties giving the Legionnaires a couple of opportunities of 5 on 3 play but strong forechecking and great defensive play and goal tending kept it at 3-3 after two periods. Kings out shot the Legionnaires 12-6 in the period.
The third period continued with back and forth action, tight forechecking, good opportunities and great goal tending on both ends until 9:33 when newcomer Ryan McAllister scored his first as a King, assisted by Joel Mazzilli and Jacob Rochford, for a 4-3 Kings lead. Kurt Watson scored for the Kings at 15:59, his 18th, with assists from Blake McConnell-Barker and D’Arcy Panziera to make it 5-3 Kings. Joel Mazzilli capped a 3 goal evening with his 22nd at 19:46 in an empty net, assisted by Joe Capirchio and another newcomer Carson Pearce, to give the Kings a 6-3 win. Kings out shot the Legionnaires 17-14 in the period and 42-34 overall,
Mazzilli’s hat trick and 2 assists for the evening puts him in 10th place in GOJHL goals and 6th place in points, and earning the games first star.
Kings have a repeat performance scheduled as the Legionnaires come to Komoka on Saturday evening at the Komoka Wellness Centre – 7:15 pm puck drop.
