It had been a long time coming for the Kings, but finally, on Sunday, the the club emerged victorious in Elmira.
They had been playing really good hockey for weeks. Outshooting opponents, staking themselves to multi-goal leads, but not quite able to hold on. The young group was finally rewarded for the time and effort they’ve been putting in as of late.
Everybody in on the action
The Kings got significant depth scoring this week. Each of the top three lines produced multiple goals this week. A triple threat attack for Komoka was paced by the top line (Jagan Chanderdat, Nate Adams, Gavin Hern/Johannes Kalm/rotating on Sunday), who produced three goals, nine assists, and 12 points over the three games the club played this week.
The second line (Micah Kraayenbrink, Ben Funston/Alex Akena, Ethan Alexander) put up three goals and two assists for five points, and the third (Ben Funston/Dylan Lale/Gavin Hanford, Ben Siroen, Everett Force) had a great week as well, with five goals and five assists for 10 points in three games.
Edwards’ Magic Against His Former Team
Owen Edwards played his first game as a Komoka King on October 5th. Since then, the Kings had played Elmira twice leading into Sunday’s matchup, but he had yet to play them. Edwards got the start on back to back nights, after facing 29 shots from London on Saturday, and got a shot against his former club for the first time. It was a busy night for the Oshawa-native, who faced 57 shots on goal in the game. Edwards was incredible. He stopped 54 out of 57 shots that he had to face, including a whopping 25 saves in the second, just two shy of the Kings record for saves in a period. Edwards earned every bit of the victory in Elmira, being named the Nothers Awards Player of the Game.
