Kings Take 2-1 Series Lead

Kings do a repeat performance in Leamington by scoring 3 unanswered goals after the Flyers take an early 2 goal lead, to take the third game of the series 3-2 and shift home ice advantage to the Komoka team who now lead the series 2 games to 1.

Just like the night before in Komoka, Kings surrender 2 first period goals before the Kings come-back.  Flyers scored a short handed goal at 6:02 and a second goal at 11:58.  Kings Blake McConnell-Barker notched his 4th of the playoffs at 18:52 on assist by Joel Mazzilli to end the first period with a 2-1 Flyers lead.  Leamington outshot the Kings 16-6 in the first period with Kings Owen Say making several key stops.

Kings took control in the second period with a tying goal at 8:53 by Cameron Welch his 3rd of the playoffs, with assists to Luc Arsenault and Joe Capirchio.  On a delayed penalty call on the Flyers and the Kings goalie out for an extra attacker, Cameron Welch scored his second of the night and 4th of the playoffs at 10:37 with assists to Joel Mazzilli and Jacob Rochford.  Owen Say had to stop several more Leamington scoring changes as the Flyers outshot the Kings 15-12 in the period.  Just like the night before, Kings had a 3-2 lead after two periods.

The Flyers, sensing a similar fate as Saturday night, buzzed the Kings zone in the third period only to be stopped by the Kings D and forwards backchecking along with the solid puck stopping by King’s Say.  The Kings were also severely tested by late period penalties including at 19:12 when the Flyers pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but the Kings stopped them to take the 3-2 win.  Flyers outshot the Kings 11-6 in the period and 42-24 overall.  But the Kings take a 2 games to 1 lead in the semi-final series.  Kings were 0-for-1 on the power play and the Flyers 0-for-7.

First star of the game was King’s Cameron Welch with 2 goals.  Second star Owen Say for another strong performance .  And third Star Blake McConnell-Barker.  Honourable mentions to Joel Mazzilli with 2 assists, and the depleted D-core who were 2 men short in the last half of the game and Dario Beljo called on for support..

Kings next game is at the Komoka Wellness Centre on Tuesday night when they host the Flyers for the 4th game of the semi-final series – 7:15 pm puck drop.
