Komoka Kings Owner and GM Roop Chanderdat is pleased to announce that Michael Reati will join the team as an assistant coach for the 2018-2019 GOJHL season. Mike has extensive hockey background as a local player and teaching and coaching at the minor and high school level.
Mike learned to skate at age 8, started AA hockey at age 10, and had his first taste of AAA hockey by age 12. At age 14 he was playing in the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs organization and converted from defense to forward (in the playoffs by current Kings head coach Ron Horvat). He joined the GOJHL St. Thomas Stars at age 16 and in his rookie season was MVP of the showcase/prospects game, and received the team rookie of the year and fan favorite awards. He was also nominated for the league all rookie team as a forward and as a defenseman. In Mike’s second season he won the team unsung hero award while playing through a recurring knee injury. In his third and final season Mike led the team in goals, and shared the award for leading the team in points, and received the team’s student award for academic achievement. Mike attended UWO the following year and stepped away from competitive hockey to focus on academics.
In talking about his coaching achievements Mike says “I have spent the past decade in education and coached at the high school level throughout that time. The teams have enjoyed success with three city finals in the past four seasons including a AAA city championship, regional championship, and provincial quarterfinals appearance as well as a AA city championship and regional finals appearance. Former players can be found throughout junior hockey from major junior (OHL) down.
The Komoka Kings welcome Michael to the team and look forward to the successes and excitement they will bring.
